All one has to do is look at their latest energy bill to see that the need to turn a home “green” has never been more important. Energy costs are soaring and if a house has not yet been converted over to the “green” way of living, the household budget is probably taking some major hits with their monthly bills. Green living does not require people to become fanatics about going green, it just requires some common sense.
One of the most prominent areas that we see for a waste in the average home is the use of electricity. People are leaving the lights on in rooms that are not being used and they are also using the wrong types of light bulbs. This is actually a double whammy because they are paying for lighting that is not being used and they are paying more for it because the right equipment is not being used.
Another area of huge energy waste is the entertainment center. How many times has someone gone to bed and turned off the TV but forgot to turn off the surround sound or the video game system. This is of course not to mention the fact that if a plasma or LCD TV is the main set, it is sitting on standby and eating up energy even when it is off. There are again ways to combat this.
Something else to consider is the types of products that are being used in the home. This is extremely important because it is imperative that the children develop a sense of what to buy early on. Repetition breeds habit and if this type of attitude is embedded in them early on, it is something that they will carry with them throughout their lives.
Our purpose here is to try and help the everyday person learn how to go green, save the environment and save some money on their monthly bills. There are times when doing the right thing will cost you something, but that is not the case here. It is nice to get rewarded for doing what is right and we are going to show you how to do exactly that!
